Badminton

A friendly group play badminton in Wickham Community centre on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. We have adults of mixed abilities and all ages, and play for fun, although that doesn't mean we don't try hard!

We currently have some vacancies for experienced players, on Sunday evenings 7-9pm. We play with plastic shuttles, which enable us to keep the cost down to £2 for 2 hours.

G Scale Society

Around the end of October every year since 2007 the Solent Group of the G Scale Society has been holding large indoor model railway shows at the Wickham Community Centre with eight or nine large working layouts plus static displays, demonstrations, etc. Non-members, accompanied little ones included, are especially welcome at these shows. No entry charge is made, though an entry donation is requested to offset the cost of the event.

The Society was founded in 1987 to bring together railway modellers using a scale of around 1:22.5, and 45mm gauge track (G scale). Large but not ‘sit-on’.

Naturally the majority of layouts are set out in members’ gardens, but there are also a considerable number of fine indoor display layouts, such as the ones on display at Wickham, that make the rounds of model railway shows throughout the country.

Overall, the Society has about 1500 members throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. The Solent Group has some sixty members, with around a dozen garden layouts in the area. (You don’t have to have a layout to be a member)

Our Shows at Wickham usually also include layouts etc from sister societies modelling in the similar large scales of 16mm and Gauge 3.
